Dual-sport adventure bike
The benchmark round-the-world overland machine: 30-litre tank, ShiftCam boxer engine and dynamic electronic suspension.

Verdict
The most complete long-distance adventure bike you can buy. Heavy, but it carries the weight better than anything else in the class.
Three seasons and roughly 42,000 km, most of them loaded: the GS Adventure never asked for anything beyond scheduled service. The 30-litre tank is the single feature that changes how you plan a remote leg — 500 km between pumps is realistic.
The boxer's low centre of gravity is what makes a 260 kg bike manageable on gravel. You feel the mass when you pick it up, not while you ride it.
ShiftCam removes the flat-spot the previous generation had at 4,000 rpm, and the electronically adjustable suspension genuinely adapts to loaded gravel instead of just masking it.
What it does not do: it will never feel like a 690 on technical terrain. If your route is more than 60% singletrack, look elsewhere.
